Studio B Fall Classes
All classes offered at Studio B, 39A East Philadelphia Avenue, Boyertown, PA 19512, unless otherwise noted. All classes run 6 weeks unless otherwise noted.

Saturdays, Sept 19-Oct 31:

10am-noon: Oil Painting/Foundation Drawing, Bob Williams
Learn how to draw what you see! We will draw the still life in pencil and charcoal giving it volume through shading. Traditional methods that were used by the old masters will be stressed. Students who have previously taken a drawing class may choose to work with oil paints.
$120 members, $135 non-members

Noon-2pm: Drawing People and Animals, Amy Brand (This class starts Sept 26)
Drawing people and animals can be one of the most challenging tasks for an artist, but also one of the most exciting and rewarding! This class will focus on drawing living beings, both humans and animals. Topics will include portraiture, figural gesture drawing, and drawing animals.
$120 members, $135 non-members

2-4pm: Sculpture, Amy Brand (This class starts Sept 26)
This class will provide the opportunity to make sculptural and decorative pieces using self-hardening clay. We’ll start with simple ornaments, and move up to larger sculptural works. Students of various levels of experience are welcome, and will be encouraged to bring their own ideas to class projects.
$120 members, $135 non-members, $10 materials fee

4-6pm: Organic Basket Weaving, Jennifer Ovdiyenko
Students will complete one basket made with vine, reed, seagrass and other natural materials. Each basket is started with grapevine twisted to form the sides, rim and handle, then the student will choose from various supplied materials to finish his basket.
$120 members, $135 non-members, $15 materials fee

Sundays, Sept 20-Oct 25:

10am-noon: Fashion Illustration, Amanda Condict
Class will cover technical garment illustrations (known as flats), fashion figure proportions and drawing the clothed fashion figure. Basic knowledge of garment construction and some prior drawing experience helpful but not necessary.
$120 members, $135 non-members, $5 materials fee

Noon-2pm: Imaginative Drawing, Jean Esther
For developing artists and those just beginning, we will explore our imagination and learn how to translate our ideas into successful drawings. Topics include creating your own characters, anatomy of a super hero, comic and book illustration.
$120 members, $135 non-members

2-4pm: Manga/Anime, Jean Esther
Students will learn conventional drawing techniques which are all part of Manga style animation. Classes will feature Manga characters, scenarios, designs, lighting, and more. It’s the best of both worlds for kids that love Manga. They develop skills that translate to realistic drawing: light and shadow, line and tone, perspective and foreshortening hands, faces, and body action.
$120 members, $135 non-members

Mondays, Sept 21-Oct 26:

10am-noon: Home School Art Class, Diana McKee
This class will round out your home-schoolers education by giving him a traditional art class. Basic watercolor techniques will be explored with an emphasis on value studies and color.
$120 members, $135 non-members, $5 materials fee

6-8pm: Outer Space Art, Amy Brand (This class starts Sept 28)
This themed class is all about outer-space, and exploring it through drawing and painting. Projects will include outer-space pastel drawings and life-size alien paintings.

Tuesdays, Sept 22-Oct 27:

10am-noon: Adult Watercolor, Diana McKee
Learn how to create a watercolor painting that you will be proud to hang. We will go over what makes a good painting: composition, light source, colors to create moods and space. You will learn watercolor techniques, what makes watercolor unique to other mediums and will progress step by step to create a unique painting of your own.
$120 members, $135 non-members

6-8pm: Confident Writer's Voice, Kathryn Craft
Writers despair that author confidence is an intangible, bestowed at birth or absorbed by osmosis after years of sitting at the keyboard. But author confidence is also a function of craft. With lessons designed to hone one magical aspect of creative writing at a time and feedback from an experienced developmental editor, you will gain confidence that is transferable to any other writing project, fiction or nonfiction. Who knows? What begins as a series of assignments might grow to become a short story, a memoir or a novel.

Wednesdays, Sept 23-Oct 28:

3-5pm: High School Art and Portfolio Preparation, Peter Schnore
Any student planning on going on to art school will need a professional-looking portfolio. Besides offering advanced art instruction, this class will help students to choose which pieces of his work should be included in a portfolio and how to best present them.
$120 members, $135 non-members, $5 materials fee

5:30-6:30pm: Yoga for Tweens, Jillian Prout
A gentle form of Yoga with relaxation and meditation at the end. Great for helping focus young people and stretching out after or before sports.
$40 members, $50 non-members

6:30-8:30pm: Abstract Art and Design, Amy Brand
If you love to doodle abstract designs, or splash paint around, this is the class you’ve been waiting for! All drawing and painting projects will be abstract in nature. Assignments will explore the styles and techniques of famous abstract artists, as well as the exciting possibilities hidden in a variety of media. Enthusiasm and a sense of artistic adventure are pre-requisites, but experience and drawing “ability” are not.
$120 members, $135 non-members, $5 materials fee

Thursdays, Sept 24-Oct 29:

4-5:30pm: Elementary Art Enrichment, Danielle Wanner
This class offers a general overview of fine art techniques in the context of historical reference. Young students will produce work that has meaning for them while they are learning techniques in a many different mediums.
$90 members, $100 non-members, $5 materials fee

6-8pm: Figure Drawing, Bob Williams
This class will explore the traditional methods of drawing the clothed human figure. We will cover anatomy, modeling form with shading, proportions, and gestural drawing.
$120 members, $135 non-members, $5 model fee

6:30-8pm: Victorian Decorative Holiday Crafts (October only), Pattie Milam

October 1: Marbleized Christmas Balls
Create a set of glass balls using a marbleizing technique with metallic paints in colors to match your home décor.
$15 members, $20 non-members, $10 materials fee

October 8: Ribbons and Bows
Learn how to make a variety of hand-tied bows and ribbon roses. Use them on your own personal Christmas card.

October 15: Rainbow Carved Candles
Hand dip a set of candles in colored wax and carve them to showcase the rainbow core.

October 22: Hand-painted Floral Christmas Balls
Create a keepsake set of Christmas balls with folk-art style flowers in your favorite colors.

Special Weekend Offerings

September 26-27—Saturday AND Sunday—10am-2pm Chine Collé Two-day Workshop with Melissa Strawser, internationally-recognized for printmaking. Learn an alternative paper-printing process using a water-based Intaglio technique. All levels of experience welcome, ages 16 to adult. Location: Bertoia Studio, 644 Main Street, Bally, PA 19503.
$225 members, $240, non-members

Saturday OR Sunday: Glass Blowing Class: 9am-5pm Register for one-day class beginning September 16 or 17 through December 19, 20 (excepting December 5). Make your own original balls, vessels, paperweights, cups and fun glass pieces to take home. Wear comfortable clothes, closed shoes. Signed release form required, ages 10 (with adult permission) to adult. Location: Taylor Backes Glass, 2nd and Washington Streets, Boyertown.

October 25- November 29: Sunday Afternoons at Studio B
The Studio will be open from 11am-3pm for a book signing, a raw foods demonstration, a presentation by the Quaker Friends, and more. Most presentations will begin at 1pm. Drop in’s welcome. Light refreshments will be served and donations are welcome.

October 25: The Art of Videography: Enjoy the work of Boyertown's up and coming videographers hosted by WZAR's Zach Reinert.

November 1: A presentation on Quaker history by several members of the Exeter Meeting House. The meeting house is eager to celebrate a historic milestone.

November 8: Raw Foods--Lisa Montgomery, author of Raw Foods, will demonstrate some recipes from her book and sign copies for people who purchase the book.

November 15: Ron Roth, Exhibiton Curator, Director and CEO of the Reading Public Museum will give a presentation about the museum, its holdings, and events.

November 22: Refresh your bridge skills or learn the rules if you've never played; meet with friends, form new partnerships with Dick Powell, a passionate newcomer to the game.

November 29: Take time to learn more about the latest publication about Boyertown from the authors and creators of The History of the Boyertown Area in Pictures: Special People Create a Special Place


Clayote Fall Classes
Boyertown’s brand new clay studio will do events, corporate workshops, group mosaics and murals, birthday parties and "Clay-Dates." Additional studio times and classes can be reserved with 24-hour notice and deposit. All classes are by the month, starting the first week of each month, beginning first week in September unless otherwise specified. Location: Clayote, 3 East Philadelphia Avenue, Boyertown. 10:30-11:30am: Mudpuppies, grades K-6
Students of all ages and ability will learn the basics of clay art including: wedging, scoring, slipping, glazing, and 5 secret rules of throwing on the wheel. Glazing and all supplies included. Exhibit at the end of every month.
$56 per month. 10% discount per each additional month.

12-2pm and 4-8pm: Open studio time.
Supplies and wheel access included, with assistance available.
$10 per hour, no reservation necessary

2:30-3:30pm: Mudslingers, adults
No experience necessary, an adult's clay class that is tailored to each student. Participants will be able to learn a little bit of everything, or focus on one style/technique if desired. Each class offers 30 extra minutes of studio time at the end.
$75 per month, all supplies included, additional clay available. 10% discount for multiple months or participants.


Sundays:

2-3:30pm: ASAP (After Services Art Power)
Join us for an easy afternoon of friendship, joy, creativity and appreciation of the arts as we talk and do projects together that enhance and support our dream, goals, and spiritual journeys. All are welcome!
$10 per session, materials included

4-6pm: Open studio time.
Supplies and wheel access included, with assistance available.
$10 per hour, call for reservation

Students ages 13-17 will learn clay basics and then have three classes of wheel instruction, fifth week is glazing and last class is exhibit.
$88 for 6 week session. All supplies and one –on-one wheel instruction time included.

Teen Art Studio, Matthew Hamilton
This is a 6-week class for 13-17 year olds. Students work primarily in clay using basic hand-building techniques and the potter’s wheel.
$160 members; $175 non-members

Beginning Ceramics (adult class), Lisa Gauker, Dolores Kirschner
This class introduces design, hand building (slab, coil, and pinching), surface decoration, and glazing. Bring your ideas, designs, and questions and get going!

Tuesday or Wednesday evenings 6:30 – 9pm
Intermediate Ceramics (adult class), Dolores Kirschner
This 6-week class is for students with some clay experience. Development of more involved hand building techniques, throwing on the wheel, and an introduction to glaze chemistry will be offered this session.
$160 members; $175 non-members

Saturday 10am – 12 noon
Art Exploration. This 6 week class is designed for 8-12 year olds. Students will learn basic hand-building techniques. Other media will be introduced and explored. All materials are included.

Play in Clay (Sunday 1– 3pm)
This 4 week class is designed for 4-7 year old children. Children will be allowed to use their imagination to create people, creatures, and environments in clay.
