Grant Awarded for “Children’s Corner”
The Boyertown Farmer’s Market, a sub-committee of the Building A Better Boyertown (BBB) organization, has been awarded $3,500 from the Pottstown Area Health & Wellness Foundation for the 2009 season.
The Boyertown Farmer’s Market is grateful to Pottstown Area Health & Wellness, which is a longtime member of the community, in recognizing the mission of the BBB and supporting the Boyertown Farmer’s Market for a second season as they develop downtown economic opportunities and promote the health and wellness of the community.
The funds awarded will be used for the purchase of a storage trailer and the development of a “Children’s Corner” at the market. Sharon Lee, the committee chair said, “I’m very excited to receive these funds. It will help the market create a space that will encourage our community to relax and enjoy their time at the market, while shopping for the freshest, locally-grown vegetables, fruit, baked goods, meat, poultry, eggs, cheeses and other products.”
The market will begin its third season on June 6th and will run through October 31st. The hours of operation will be from 10am until 1pm and plan to be in the same location as last year, 100 South Walnut Street in Boyertown. Sharon is actively looking for volunteers to help with the Children’s Corner on a weekly basis by reading to children, supervising activities, setting up or breaking down the corner. All interested parties can contact her at farmmanager@boyertownpa.org.
Heather Oxenford, Building a Better Boyertown’s Main Street Manager said “BBB believes strongly in developing Boyertown, promoting the Farmer’s Market and enhancing the small-town feels that makes Boyertown feels so special. The opportunity that Pottstown Area Health & Wellness has given us again, expresses their support of our community. This program was made possible through the Pottstown Area Health & Wellness Foundation, and we extend our appreciation for their continued support.”
“The Pottstown Area Health & Wellness Foundation enhances the health and wellness of area residents, providing education, funding and programs that motivate people to adopt healthy lifestyles.
The Foundation was formed in July 2003 with the proceeds obtained from the sale of the Pottstown Memorial Medical Center.
