Season 2009
|
 |
|
Welcome to
The Boyertown Farmers Market!
The Boyertown Farmers Market reopened for its 2009 season on June 6th, 2009,
and runs every Saturday from 10am to 1 pm through October 31st.
Our farmers offer a great selection of produce, beef, poultry, baked goods and much,
much more. The Boyertown Farmer’s Market brings together local
farmers and the community by providing delicious, healthy, nutritious
food, while helping to preserve our agricultural resources.
The Market is located at 100 South Walnut Street, in the parking lot of
The Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles, two blocks south of the
intersection of Routes 562 and 73.
You can keep abreast of what’s happening at the market each week,
obtain seasonal recipes, in-depth interviews with your farmers and
educational information with the Boyertown Farmer’s Market email
newsletter. Sign up at the market or contact the Market Manager at
Farmmanager@boyertownpa.org.
June 27th...
Bug Fest!
This is it - the event of the season! Come join us at the Boyertown Farmers Market this Saturday, June 27th from 10am until 1pm for BugFest! We invite you to decide, "Are insects friend or foe to the farmer?"
We will have plenty of evidence on hand to help you make your decision,
while you purchase foods grown by our local farmers that spend many
hours trying to outwit these insects. Our farmers grow these foods
without chemicals or pesticides - which is no small feat when you
consider we are outnumbered 10 million to one!
Start with a stroll through the butterfly garden,
courtesy of Still Pond Nursery. There you will learn how to create a
garden that will attract beneficial insects and butterflies to your
backyard. While in the garden, be sure to stop by the beehive, where Jan Cauffman will demonstrate how to care for bees-very important pollinators of our crops.
The bug museum will have on
display hundreds of bugs, from locally and around the world that will
amaze and delight you. See if you can find Hercules, Goliath and Atlas
among the crowd of insects! Not all the bugs in the bug museum will be
dead, several local collectors and Zimmer's Pets will have samples of live insects!
If all this investigation has you hungry, stop by the Bug CaféEveryone that eats a bug, gets a certificate!
For quieter activities, stop by the Kids Korner, where Peace Valley
Nature Center will have microscopes and other activities for the kids.
Create some bug art with crayons (thank you Crayola Factory) or paint -
fit for framing to commemorate this special day. for some treats
prepared by John ben John from the Mountain Top Café. He will be
cooking with locally grown foods and bugs! Now is your chance - sweet
revenge against the insects that ate your garden! Feedings will take
place at 10:30 am and again at Noon. Free recipes and food samples
will be available for the truly brave.
